Spa Pool Maintenance Tips

Spa Pool Care Suggestions

For the whole spa: Use mild non-abrasive, non-sudsing cleansers with a soft rag or nylon scrubber to eliminate grime buildup.

For minor surface cleaning: Use baking soda to clean small surface areas.

To get a shiny look: Use FreshWater Spa Glow on your clean and dry spa shell.

For spa pool pillows: Eliminate grime and clean your spa pool pillows by following your Owner's Manual instructions.

For vinyl covers: Use a mild soap solution (1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid to 8 litres water) or baking soda and scrub the vinyl in a circular motion. Rinse the bottom of the cover and wipe clean with a dry rag.

Helpful Hint: Keep soap and detergent residue from your spa pool by rinsing off in a shower without soap before you soak and avoid the use of detergents on your bathers.

Clean Your Spa Filter Cartridges

Calcification and mineral particles from hard water can clog water filtration systems. To avoid this, we recommend the following light cleaning every month.

Spray cartridges: Rotate while spraying to remove debris between filter pleats and spray each cartridge with your hose.

Use filter cleaner: To keep your filets in prime condition.

Replace filters: Replace filters every three years with authentic Watkins replacement filters.

Replacing Your Spa Water

Soaps and detergents can build over time and cause spa deposits. You may then note your water is not as clean and clear as usual. Know how to replace your water with these simple steps.

Drain and refill bath: Drain and refill the water in your spa to clear built up detergent and soap residue.

Get pre-filter: Use the CleanScreen(TMark) Pre-Filter for clear and sparkling water right from the start.

Attach pre-filter: When using the CleanScreen Pre-Filter, attach it to a garden hose to eliminate organic contaminants such as copper, iron and tannins.

To Winterise Your Spa Pool

We want you to enjoy your Hot Spring Spa all year round. Ensure maximum energy efficiency year round with these tips.

Buy a Winter Blanket: A Winter Blanket will help to keep your spa hot all year round.

Install the Winter Blanket: Install the vinyl-fiberglass insulated Winter Blanket inside the equipment compartment door. It will help to avoid partial freezing to a number of your spa's elements whilst also maximising your pool's energy efficiency.

Check the seal: Ensure the seal is tight and intact to avoid heat loss. If you notice signs of sagging, cracking or fading, look into a replacement cover.

Remove ice and snow: Brush snow off of your spa pool cover, splash with warm water as opposed to prying it off on a regular basis.

Maintain your spa whilst on holiday: Keep your spa in shape if you intend to leave for holidays in winter:

Adjust pH: Correct the pH before you go. Refer to your Owner's Manual.

Sanitise: Sanitise the water with superb chlorination or the new Hot Spring MPS Chlorine-Free Oxidiser.

Lock cover: Lock down the cover to avoid entry and lock the light and jets feature on the control panel (on 1998 versions).

Upon your return: Balance the pH prior to using and sanitise the water.

For longer holiday periods, check with your local retailer for more hints on winterising your spa, or refer to your Owner's Manual.

Keep your spa pool water clean from bacteria, algae and unwanted impurities by keeping sanitiser supplies on hand.

The following sanitisers are recommended by Hot Spring Spas:
EverFresh(TMark) Water Care System with Hot Spring MPS Chlorine-Free Oxidiser

Granular bromine: Do not use tri-chlor chlorine, any type of compressed bromine or chlorine, acid or any kind of sanitiser not listed above. If in doubt, please contact your local Hot Spring spa retailer or Customer Care.
