What is Moto-Massage? | HotSpring Spas

What is Moto-Massage?

Moto-Massage. If you’re in the process of shopping for a hot tub, or have shopped for one before, you may have heard the term. It refers to an innovative hot tub jet that has been around for almost four decades, but that remains exclusive to Hot Spring, and has yet to be replicated by any other brand.

What is Moto-Massage?

First introduced in 1984, Moto-Massage is the first and only moving jet in the hot tub industry. Exclusive to a range of Hot Spring hot tubs, it is designed to deliver a one-of-a-kind back massage, that sends soothing streams up and down your back to sweep stress and tension away.

Two types of Moto-Massage jet feature in the modern collection of Hot Spring hot tubs. The standard Moto-Massage jet can be found in the Hot Spot TX and Hot Spot SX models, while our premier Highlife collection features the next iteration of the jet: the Moto-Massage DX.

The history of Moto-Massage

At Hot Spring we have always worked hard to stay at the leading edge of hot tub technology and innovation. We invest heavily in research and development to ensure that we continue to deliver the world’s most immersive and luxurious soaking experiences.

This commitment can be traced back to 1980, when Dale Paretovich manufactured Australasia's first portable and fully-insulated spa in his Auckland garage. He formed a partnership with Hot Spring, and the brand introduced the Moto-Massage soon after, in 1984.

The Moto-Massage wasn’t just groundbreaking for the time – to this day, four decades later, it is still the world’s only moving hot tub jet.

Over the years the original Moto-Massage jet has been enhanced, and the latest iteration, the Moto-Massage DX – exclusive to the Highlife collection –  is the culmination of 40 years of research, development and customer feedback.

How Moto-Massage works

Moto-Massage is a seemingly simple concept that has nonetheless proved tricky, or indeed impossible, for other hot tub brands to replicate.

From the first Moto-Massage to the Moto-Massage DX, the basic idea has stayed largely the same: moving jets send a powerful stream of water up and down your spine, sweeping stress and tension away in the process.

The Moto-Massage found in select Hot Spot models features a single stream, while the Moto-Massage DX found in Highlife hot tubs features twin jets that focus their streams on either side of your spine.

You can also customise the pressure and feel of your Moto-Massage experience using the control panel found on the side of your Hot Spring spa.

What are the benefits of Moto-Massage?

Why choose a Hot Spring hot tub fitted with Moto-Massage? This unique technology offers a number of equally unique benefits:

Relief where you need it

As we get older our backs can become a source of tension and pain. Moto-Massage puts a focus on this trouble area. The technology is designed to deal with back aches and issues in the most luxurious and effective way possible.

Whether your back problems have been built up over a busy day or over a lifetime, Moto-Massage technology can offer real relief.

A unique experience

Sitting in a hot tub seat fitted with a Moto-Massage DX is a little like sitting in a first class seat on an international flight: do it once, and you’ll never want to go back to how you did it before. There’s simply no soak like it.

The powerful jets begin at the top of your back, near the shoulder blades. They then stream down your spine, surprisingly quickly, before zooming right back up again. The effect is instantaneous, like a highly skilled masseuse working quickly yet precisely along the length of your spine, hitting all the spots you need them to hit.

A longer soak

Standard hot tub jets are soothing, sure, but when a jet constantly hits the same spot on your back, you can begin to feel an itchiness or even discomfort. The reason is that the jet is constantly pushing the blood away from the area of the body that it is focused on. This sees many hot tub owners flicking the jets on and off every few minutes, or moving seats to find a bit of relief. But doing so can break up the relaxation and the tranquillity of your soak, leading to a less immersive experience.

Moto-Massage avoids this feeling, and extends your soak, by constantly sweeping up and down your back. Potential itchiness and discomfort is replaced by a feeling of melting into the spa – an hour will go by before you know it!

Moto-Massage DX: the world’s most luxurious spa jet

Hot Spring pioneered moving spa jet technology way back in 1984, and continues to be the only brand to offer it today. Four decades of research and development in the technology has culminated in the latest and greatest jet yet: the Moto-Massage DX.

In the DX, Hot Spring has doubled the amount of jets working on your back. A pair of powerful and highly customisable streams are designed to work on the soft tissues that sit either side of the spine, unlocking even greater relief from back pain and tension.

In fact, there’s a compelling argument to be made that the Moto-Massage DX is the world’s most advanced and most luxurious hot tub jet. It offers a soaking experience unlike any other, and one that can make a real and lasting difference to people who suffer from back pain.
